How do I set up Bose Companion 2 speakers for my computer?

I have an HP touchsmart. I have tried to connect the speakers and no sound comes out when I try to play music. White noise does come out of the speakers so I know the power is running through them correctly. the left speaker will play softly if I plug it into the headphone hole in the computer instead of the right (default) speaker. What’s going on?!!

Hmm…
looks like a windows setting issue.
Go to control panel
>sounds
>then right click on the available icons and try each one…. and set as default device.

If this doesn’t work, there may be something wrong with your Bose speakers. They have a habit of failing.
Anyways, try another pair.
